GIVING

The Parish raises various sums of money during the year. If you would like to make a donation or join our regular giving scheme then please contact Reverend Joanne Dyer in complete confidence.

Common Fund

We raise approximately £40,000 which is paid to the Diocese of Birmingham  annually . This is known as the Common Fund  as  is money given by congregations in every parish in the Diocese. It is collected from rich and poor parishes, to provide and support clergy, and to further our work in every parish, across the area. That is why our contributions are called the ‘Common Fund’; they are made by everyone, for everyone. Generous giving by congregations enables the Diocese to maintain ministry and enable mission in all parts of the Diocese.

The Church of England receives no money from the state for our buildings, mission or ministry.

Why should we contribute?

We should contribute to Common Fund:

  • to enable the Church to work throughout the area;

  • as a sign of our commitment to proclaim Christ’s Gospel;

  • to share our resources with our fellow Christians;

  • because we recognise the importance of our Church’s mission for the future;

  • in thanks for God’s generosity towards us;

  • because we believe wholeheartedly in our Christian faith.

Church Running Costs

We have big challenges in our finances going forward. Finances for our day to day expenditure, things like electric, oil, insurance,  Common Fund (that’s what goes towards funding the vicar, but no where near what one costs, and the support we receive from the diocese) are way exceeding our income. Income being regular giving and collections at services.  This year (2023) our expenditure ( not including funds that are restricted to individual church buildings) exceeded our income by  nearly £18000. At this rate in less than 2 years we will be bankrupt. The bottom line is our giving does not sustain our ministry. We will as a PCC  look at where we can make savings, but I also ask that you commit this situation to prayer for wisdom and a way forward. The God we worship is faithful and at work amongst and out-with us. Because of this we can look forward with hope

NB  Each individual Church retains the responsibility for the fabric of the building and for raising the funds for any necessary work and repairs. You will often see an appeal for the funds to help to raise major sums for these repairs. A new roof can cost around £60,000 and repairs to large stained glass windows and stonework approximately £30,000. â€‹
